cymbals Magazine

There are presently no open calls for submissions.

  • cymbals, Princeton Day School's literary and visual arts magazine, welcomes student work from all grade levels in the following categories: writing (non-fiction and fiction); artwork (i.e. sculpture, drawing, painting, photography, ceramics, furniture design, mixed media,  architecture); videography; and the performing arts (music, dance, and theater).
  • Each year the staff chooses a theme.  The theme for the 2023-2024 issue is "Genuine Fakes."
  • Guidelines:
  • Music may be submitted as either a recording or video.
  • There are no word or time limits. Woohoo!
  • You do not need to be a member of cymbals staff to submit to the Magazine.
  • Work can be created inside or outside of school, and does not need to be for either a Princeton Day School arts or humanities class. You do not need to be enrolled in either of these to submit.
  • Work submitted can be created at any point since your freshman year, and does not need to be created during the month of submission.
  • You may submit an unlimited amount of work to any category.
  • We are looking for: tone, craftsmanship, voice, and creativity.
  • If the size of the file is huge, please send us the link (i.e. a film).
  • Please REMOVE your NAME from the work before submitting (we want to judge your work anonymously).
  • Work accepted will be considered for the Online and/or year-end version, so don't hold out.  Submit now.
  • No need to have a "Cover Letter" (it's just part of the template)
  • PLEASE include a TITLE for your work, and when it comes to artwork, also include the MEDIUM in which you worked (oil on canvas, mixed media, collage, architecture, ceramics, pen and ink, film, photography, music, etc.).  If you do not provide a title we will make one up for you.
  • cymbals reserves the right to edit any vulgar language or unusually disturbing content.  We will, of course, make every attempt to preserve the artist's original intent, but we are a Pre-K through 12 institution with readers, potentially, of all ages.
